Summary of S - th Congress (): A bill to amend the Reclamation Projects Authorization and Adjustment Act of to authorize the Secretary of the Interior to participate in the design, planning, and construction of certain water reclamation and reuse projects and desalination research and development projects, and for other purposes. The two principal parts of the program are: (1) perform research on desalination technologies and related issues to advance the state of the art forward (research and studies), and (2) conduct development and demonstration activities to test technological advancements, confirm economics, and gain public acceptance (development projects).

Desalination and Water Purification Research and Development (DWPR): The U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Reclamation (Reclamation), is currently requesting applications for projects to be funded by the Desalination and Water Purification Research and Development Program (DWPR).
The research program follows the recommendations of the National Research Council's prepublication. Research and development efforts have concentrated on improving the materials used in desalination plants, as well as the process of desalination itself. While the widespread commercial application of those investigations is unlikely to occur within the next decade, it bodes well for the future of desalination as a source of freshwater.
Desalination or desalinization is a process that removes minerals from saline generally, desalination may also refer to the removal of salts and minerals, as in soil desalination, which also happens to be a major issue for agricultural production.
Salt water is desalinated to produce fresh water suitable for human consumption or irrigation. In the s, the very limited desalination market was dominated by European manu- facturers, which held % of the market. Inthe US Federal Government passed the Saline Water Act and began funding desalination research and development.
By the mid s, the US had built 45% of the desalination plants in by: The book comprises 14 chapters covering all the issues related to water desalination. These chapters emphasize the relationship between problems encountered with the use of feed water, the processes developed to address them, the operation of the required plants and solutions actually implemented.
This compendium will assist designers, engineers and investigators to select the process and Cited by: Short title Section 1 states that the legislation may be cited as the ``Water Desalinization Research and Development Act of ''.
Section 2. Declaration of policy Section 2 states that it is the policy of the United States to perform research and to develop low-cost alternatives in the desalinization and reuse of saline or biologically.
